Precipitated silica Felcosil-175GR is made as a semi-reinforcing filler in non-black SBR compounds.
Silica in rubber plays an essential role in enhancing the performance of rubber products, including automotive tires, footwear, industrial seals, and more. Silica (SiO₂) is used in rubber compounding for its unique properties that improve the physical characteristics of the rubber matrix, such as strength, abrasion resistance, durability, and traction
Applications of Silica in Rubber:
- Automotive Tires:
- Silica is widely used in tire manufacturing to improve abrasion resistance, wet traction, and fuel efficiency. Silica-based tires are considered eco-friendly due to their ability to reduce rolling resistance, which leads to better fuel economy.
- In high-performance tires (e.g., for sports cars or racing), silica improves wet grip and cornering stability.
- Footwear:
- Rubber shoe soles, especially in sports footwear and outdoor footwear, benefit from silica’s properties. It enhances traction and abrasion resistance, providing better grip on both dry and wet surfaces.
- Silica is also used in casual shoes for improved comfort, durability, and flexibility.
- Industrial Rubber Components:
- Silica is used in industrial rubber products such as seals, gaskets, and belts to enhance wear resistance and strength. Its ability to improve elasticity and tear resistance makes it ideal for components exposed to continuous mechanical stress.
- Seals and Gaskets:
- Silica-reinforced rubber is used in sealing applications, especially where chemical resistance and high-performance requirements are important. Silica improves the long-term durability of seals and gaskets used in automotive engines, industrial machinery, and construction equipment.
- Hoses and Belts:
- Rubber hoses and belts, especially in high-stress applications, benefit from the reinforcing properties of silica. Silica enhances abrasion resistance and tensile strength, making the products more durable and able to withstand harsher operating conditions.
- Rubber Flooring:
- Silica is used in rubber flooring products to improve abrasion resistance, comfort, and sound insulation. It is common in applications like gym flooring, playground surfaces, and industrial flooring.
